At Hospice by the Bay, we feel it is an honor to provide compassionate end-of-life care to our country’s veterans, 680,000 of whom die each year. That is why we show our commitment to their care by being a Level One Partner in NHPCO’s We Honor Veterans Program. After putting their lives on the line to protect our freedoms, it is only appropriate that we help these heroes in their time of need.

In October, Hospice by the Bay Provider Relations Liaison Mary Kate DeLucco was present to witness and place a wreath at the American Veterans Traveling Vietnam War Memorial Wall temporarily on display at Petaluma’s Lucchesi Park. This tribute wall is an 80 percent scale model of the 360-foot long memorial in Washington. The wreath or its ribbon may eventually find a home in the National Archives.

Recently, Hospice by the Bay volunteer Tom Lyon was the recipient of the Spirit of Honor Volunteer Excellence award at this year’s Hospice by the Bay Volunteer Appreciation Reception on Sept. 17. He was honored for his tireless service to our patients who are military veterans.

This Veteran’s Day, and every day, those men and women who’ve served us proudly over the decades are very much on our minds and in our hearts.
