What if you haven’t planned ahead and now you need a plan? We all know how easy it is to procrastinate.
Even if it is about something as important as the end of our lives, we can be too busy to deal with it, or feel too healthy to worry about it. Maybe it’s too hard to think about. Then days, months and even years go by and the unexpected happens. Suddenly we are facing the very thing we’ve been avoiding.
Consider how uncomfortable it will be for your loved ones to be disagreeing over what to do, while you are in the ICU unable to speak for yourself. By experiencing a bit of discomfort now, you are giving your family a gift. Peace of mind.
We know it can be overwhelming to think about all the issues at once. Take it slowly and in small chunks. Visualize the future you want for your health care, for your stuff, etc. Write it down. Then, have a heart-to-heart with your family members, caregivers, friends or whomever is important in your life.
Once you start the process, before you know it, you will be done and relieved to have a plan in place.
